eIDAS Regulation

European Framework for Electronic Timestamps, Signatures and Seals

Certification Qualified Trust Service Provider Compliant with eIDASThe EU Regulation on Electronic Identification and Trust Services for Electronic Transactions in the Internal Market (abbreviated eIDAS) entered into force on July 1, 2016. For the first time, this legal instrument combines legal, technical and organizational aspects to establish a uniform, mandatory framework for simple and secure implementation of consistent electronic processes between public agencies, enterprises and EU citizens.

This means that the eIDAS supersedes the former EU Directive 1999/93/EC as directly applicable law, replacing any national law that contradicts the eIDAS Regulation, such as the German Signature Act (SigG) and the subsidiary Signature Ordinance (SigV). It puts an end to conflicting national regulations and instead defines a common standard for all EU and EFTA states regarding means of identification and trust services for electronic transactions on a mutually agreed basis. At the same time, it opens up new fields of application that take recent developments in digital business processes into account.

Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) – Secure & High-performing

Icon: Hardware Security Modules (HSMs)With the advent of the eIDAS Regulation, hardware security modules (HSMs) have gained significance because they are now approved as qualified electronic signature creation devices (QSEEs). They can thus be used to issue qualified electronic signatures, but also for secure management and storage of the required cryptographic keys and processes.

In the sphere of digital signatures and timestamps, HSMs are often an ideal alternative to mass use of smartcards. Generally speaking, HSMs can provide the same functionalities as smartcards und can be accessed via the same interfaces, but offer far higher performance levels and are simpler to operate. In the German-speaking part of Europe, exceet Secure Solutions is the only provider with long-standing experience and all-round expertise in this field, acting as a single source for manufacturer-independent HSM products and services.

Here you will find further information on hardware security modules (HSMs), our products and services.
